Abstract: Stephan Ord will discuss NASA’s Suborbital Flight Opportunities Program and what students can to enable their research to earn a slot on future launches.

Bio: Stephan Ord is currently the Technology Manager for the Flight Opportunities program at NASA Ames Research Center. Prior to his current position, he was the Systems Engineer for the Millimeter-wave Thermal Launch System Project.Ìý Ord has held several positions during his 31-year career, including Project Manager for the EDSN cubesat network mission; Project Manager for the OMEGA (Offshore Membrane Enclosures for Growing Algae) Project which explored the possibilities of growing algae in a unique environment for biofuel use; Deputy Systems Engineer on the FTD-1 (Flagship Technology Demonstration) mission where an ion-propulsion space tug concept was explored.

Ord was the Project Controls Manager for the Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite project which found evidence of water ice on the Earth’s moon.Ìý He has also held positions as a Deputy Branch Chief, Engineering Group Leader, Systems Engineer and Facility Engineer in the low and high-speed wind tunnel test facilities. Ord has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from SJSU and a Masters Certificate in Space Systems Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.Ìý

He enjoys spending time with his family and has several hobbies including building and operating model rockets, trains, and cars.
