Bio: Dave Machuga is the Director of Ground Design and Mission Support for Space and Launch, a division of Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS). Prior to his current position, he served as the Chief Engineer for Autonomous Systems Division.Ìý In that role, he directed the technical activities for over 1,000 engineers building new capabilities in autonomy, unmanned platforms and electronic systems.Ìý Previously, he served director of Network and Space Systems’ Mission Systems Engineering Capability, where he focused on creating next-generation electronics capabilities for our defense and intelligence customers.
Machuga has over 20 years of experience in the electronics and defense industries, with expertise in program / business management, technical management, business development, operations and strategic planning. Previously in Boeing, he was the president and general manager for Digital Receiver Technology, Inc. (DRT), a subsidiary of The Boeing Company. While there, he updated DRT’s technology development plans, aligning them with evolving customer missions and creating a new, multi-mission platform. Prior to joining Boeing in 2013, Machuga was senior fellow and vice president for national studies at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies for cybersecurity and rapid innovation programs.Ìý
Previously, Machuga held numerous positions at Northrop Grumman. Starting as a senior engineer, he was responsible for the development of radio frequency devices and materials to improve the performance of radar and electronic warfare systems. Machuga then transitioned into program management, where he was responsible for next-generation space-based system development. As part of this role, he developed new operational concepts for the Space-Based Infrared System-Low Earth Orbit (SBIRS-Low) using overall threat and mission simulations. Continuing larger support to the Missile Defense Agency mission, Machuga replanned the SBIRS High Geo sensor development program when Northrop Grumman acquired Aerojet, resulting in customer accolades for system integration execution. His responsibilities grew to include technical and strategic planning, program management and operations management, culminating in the role of chief technology officer for the Identity Management and Enterprise Business Solutions business unit.Ìý
Machuga graduated from Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering.
