Making Engagement with Media and Information Literacy
Media and information literacy, the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media and information, has become paramount to full participation in educational, professional, and social activities. People who are blind and visually impaired people are rarely exposed to activities and tools that enable them to produce media鈥搊ne of the cornerstones of media and information literacy for all. Currently, there are very few social, technical, or sociotechnical systems that empower people who are blind to produce their own media for self-expression or information sharing. The lack of these systems perpetuates existing inequities this population faces in their education and workplace experiences. In this project, we work with people who are blind and visually impaired and their teachers and caregivers to develop socio-technical approaches to make media production more accessible.
