Decision Support Processes for Participatory Water Management

Mitch Clement attended the 2nd International Meeting on Decision Support Processes for Participatory Water Management: Building Capacities in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, in Valencia, Spain on April 17-19. The conference was hosted by the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia and co-organized by Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterry, (ITESM) in Mexico. They invited CADSWES to give a presentation and a 3-day workshop on RiverWare to the attendees, professional water managers, university faculty and students from Europe and North and South America. Mitch’s presentation, "The use of RiverWare as a decision support tool in basins with a variety of operational objectives," described RiverWare applications in the Colorado, Arkansas, Columbia and Nile River Basins, and the role of RiverWare in making water management decisions considering water supply, flood control, hydropower generation, environmental flow requirements and trans-boundary negotiations. The workshop provided an overview of RiverWare's simulation and physical process modeling, rulebased simulation, data management interface, ensemble management, and other userful utilities and features. The workshops were attended by representatives from the following universities and organizations:
