International Affairs Program Coordinator

The College of Arts and Sciences at CU Boulder encourages applications for an International Affairs Program Coordinator! This position is responsible for coordinating operations of the program (IAFS), as well as communication, outreach, and undergraduate programming. This position contributes to the mission of the unit by building community, implementing activities, creating communication flow, and managing processes for constituents. This position uses initiative and professional judgment to create and build interdisciplinary relationships for IAFS, including with the Education Abroad office, other academic units, the Academic Advising Center, the Center for Student Involvement, and the Alumni Association. This position will work collaboratively with the Assistant Director to creatively design and implement new ideas for programming, communication, and processes, and will work with divisional staff colleagues to support the Social Sciences division.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeProgram Operations 

  • Act as the main information hub for IAFS and its constituents (students, alums, faculty, staff, affiliated offices and individuals, groups and individuals beyond campus), clarifying and educating constituents on IAFS policies, resources and goals.
  • Hire and supervise student workers; coordinate faculty offer letters and onboarding; and assemble personnel dossiers for reappointment and promotion cases.
  • Resolve day-to-day purchasing issues with the Financial Service Center and Procurement Service Center and act as a liaison for building issues in the University Club offices and day-to-day issues with OIT.
  • Coordinate course scheduling and work with the Assistant Director and IAFS advisors on enrollment and registration issues, as well as general student issues.
  • Provide support for the Peace, Conflict and Security Program (PACS) by scheduling PACS courses; generating student transcripts for certificate verification; compiling the reappointment notebook for the PACS instructor; onboarding PACS lecturers; and maintaining the PACS website.
  • Plan and manage all aspects of the program spring commencement ceremony, including tracking student awards and honors, communicating with attendees, and booking space.
  • Coordinate the IAFS undergraduate research journal, including communicating with student/faculty editors, publicizing the call for papers, and overseeing the journal webpage.

Communication and Outreach 

  • Initiate, foster, and maintain relationships across and beyond campus.
  • Specific duties including connecting to the IAFS alum network through the email newsletter and mass mailing for special events or campaigns; implementing layout and design in the eComm email marketing software; and coordinating with the Director, Assistant Director, Advancement, and eComm on content, donor and alum recipients, and delivery scheduling.
  • Track and update the Global Grant Scholarship Program recipients. Coordinate donor acknowledgment with Advancement.
  • Plan the annual spring alumni event concurrent with the Conference on World Affairs, as well as the Global Speaker Series events. This includes suggesting possible speakers for alum and community interests to the Director and Assistant Director. Throughout, compile and suggest stories and events of interest to the broader IAFS community, and help determine how IAFS can best feature student stories to the public.

Undergraduate Community Building

  • Cultivate an undergraduate community in a large interdisciplinary program and within the Social Sciences division. The Program Coordinator is a liaison with unit and First Year academic advisors on information tables, student events, and enrichment programming.
  • Plan the fall open house, including communicating with attendees and booking space. Shared events require direct collaboration with offices and units across the College and campus.
  • Publicize internships and create regular student digest emails, identifying and curating student events, due dates, and opportunities.
  • This position is the point person for social media and marketing materials, with the goal of strengthening engagement among students and alums. This includes identifying and adding content on Facebook and LinkedIn; driving traffic to the main website(s); creating print media for events; and maintaining ties with A&S communication coordinators, peers in other academic units, and other offices on campus to help build communication strategy.

We anticipate that this position will support a hybrid format (in person or remote). 

What We Can OfferThe hiring range is $50,000-$55,000. Relocation assistance is available per department guidelines.   • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • At least 1+ years of professional, job related experience (this may include work in higher education, non-profits or community organizations, study abroad, or international education organizations). 

What You Will Need

  • Proficient computer knowledge and skills with Adobe Acrobat and MS Office applications, particularly with Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with a variety of professionals, administrators, and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume responsibility for initiating and completing critical functions in the management of educational programs.
  • Proven leadership ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and within other collaborative work situations.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • 2+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with event planning and programming.
  • Experience with communication and social media, including Facebook, website maintenance, and email lists.
  • Background of working not only with students, but with diverse range of constituents.
