Information Science Department Chair Bryan Semaan听is an associate professor at the听University of Colorado Boulder. He examines the role of Information听and Communication Technologies in enabling resilience amongst people immersed in challenging contexts (e.g. people鈥檚 experiences with racism and stereotyping, LGBTQ+ people 鈥渃oming out鈥, and refugees integrating into new sociocultural contexts). His work draws on critical perspectives (e.g. decolonial, critical race, and feminist)听to understand, critique, and create听ethical, moral, just and equitable听sociotechnical systems.
Before coming to CU Boulder, Bryan was an associate professor in the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University. He was also a听postdoctoral scholar听in the听Department of Information and Computer Sciences听at the听University of Hawaii at Manoa. He obtained his听Ph.D. from the听Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Science听at the听University of California, Irvine, where he also received his B.S. and M.S. in Information and Computer Science.
