CU Engineering lands three top 20 grad programs

The University of Colorado Boulder’s College of Engineering and Applied Science landed three top 20 grad programs today in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 edition of Best Graduate Schools across the country.

CU Boulder’s environmental engineering had the biggest jump going from No. 21 to No. 9. The Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences department maintained a top 10 ranking while chemical engineering came in at No. 18.  Civil engineering moved up from No. 24 to No. 21 this year.

“This national recognition is a good barometer for where we’re headed as a college and university,” said Bobby Braun, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science. “From environmental engineering to our Smead aerospace program, I am excited by the progress the college is making across all fronts. We're ready to move to the next level.”

In rankings of public institutions, environmental came in at No. 6, aerospace at No. 7, chemical engineering at No. 13, civil at No. 15, and overall the college was ranked No. 18.

“This is an acknowledgement of the quality contributions of the faculty, students and staff,” said R. Scott Summers, director of the Environmental Engineering Program. “It is of course gratifying to be recognized at this level, and it also inspires us to provide our students the best education possible.”
