Caelan Kal-El David Denley
Caelan Kal-El David Denley, an architecture major from Broomfield, Colorado, always knew he wanted to do architecture growing up and wanted to stay in Colorado so ENVD was a "no brainer."
Tell us about your involvement and/or student leadership roles in and/or outside of ENVD.
I served as the NCARB Student Licensing Advisor for the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) for two years. I also served as the Vice-President of the Running club for a year, and later, the President for two years. I was also a Campus Tour guide for three and a half years, serving as a team leader for two of those years. I was a bookstore sales associate at the CU Bookstore for three years, and I held an internship position with Panel Masters Inc. for a year.
What inspired you to come to ENVD when choosing your school?
Growing up I always knew I wanted to do architecture, from being on construction sites to building lego sets its been a part of my blood. With that being said I wanted to stay in Colorado Close to home so ENVD was a no brainer
What is one of the greatest experiences or lessons from your time at CU Boulder that you'll carry with you into the next chapter of your life?
Serving as the NCARB Licensing Advisor! I will always bring those experiences as it has taught me exactly what I need to do to become a licensed architect. I will also bring the experience in collaboration with me no matter where I go as this is a profession of collaboration.
Based on what you know now, what is your best piece of advice for other students?
Learn about how things are actually built, don't spend all your time in La-La land. Once you leave school it will be entirely realistic so at least understand it and can use that in the profession.
Describe one of your favorite memories.
One of my favorite memories is going to the LAMA Foundation with Jade and our studio and getting the van stuck in the mud having to push it out all 25 of us pushing on the van. That whole trip was so much fun to see and enjoy with everyone.
If you could say anything to your classmates, what would you say?
Thank you for all of your help and advice through the years we made it! I'm excited to see where your careers take you.
What does graduating from college represent for you?
Graduating college represents achievement after four years of all-nighters and brutal critiques. It represents something new and exciting. For me, it represents the beginning of the rest of our lives.
What are your plans beyond graduation?
I will be continuing on to work at Powers Brown Architecture in Denver as an Intern Architect.
