TITLE: White River Project Manager
DEPARTMENT: Western Conservation
PROGRAM: Western Water and Habitat Program
REPORTS TO: Northwest Colorado Director

Trout Unlimited is a national conservation organization with a mission to conserve, protect, and restore North America's cold-water fisheries and their watersheds. From the beginning, Trout Unlimited has been guided by a principle grounded in science: if we take care of the fish, then the fishing will take care of itself. The organization has 300,000 members and supporters organized into over 400 chapters and councils nationwide. These dedicated grassroots volunteers are matched by a respected staff of organizers, lawyers, policy experts, and scientists, who work out of more than 40 offices across the country.


POSITION SUMMARY
Trout Unlimited鈥檚 Western Water and Habitat Program seeks a Project Coordinator to plan and implement on-the-ground projects that conserve and restore coldwater fisheries in the White River basin of northwest Colorado. Projects may include efforts to: remove fish passage obstacles, improve irrigation infrastructure, increase stream flows, restore instream and riparian habitat, and protect native and sport fishes from invasive species. The Coordinator will be based out of Meeker, Colorado and report to the Northwest Colorado Program Manager. Continuation of the position beyond three years depends on the availability of funding.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coordinator will work closely with private land owners, agency staff, and personnel from other non-profit organizations. Primary responsibilities will be to:
鈥 Develop relationships with landowners and agency staff
鈥 Plan and oversee projects
鈥 Raise funds, as necessary, to implement projects
鈥 Manage grant application and reporting requirements
鈥 Identify opportunities for stream flow improvement
鈥 Monitor project effectiveness.
Other responsibilities may include:
鈥 Working with agency staff and water providers to advocate for fish-friendly water management
鈥 Sitting on technical advisory committees
鈥 Completing other appropriate tasks as needed


QUALIFICATIONS
鈥 Advanced degree in biology, ecology, hydrology, engineering, or another related
field
鈥 Work experience and skills in aquatic ecology/biology
鈥 Strong interpersonal and communication skills
鈥 Knowledge of irrigation systems and experience working with irrigators
鈥 Ability to secure grants and manage project budgets
鈥 Practical problem-solving skills and proven track record of attaining goals
鈥 Ability to work with experts on, hydrologic modeling, water rights engineering,
GIS mapping, instream flow quantification methodologies, biological sampling,
and data analyses
鈥 Willingness to travel locally
鈥 Passion for the outdoors and Trout Unlimited鈥檚 mission is essential, fly fishing is
a plus
