Professor Reappointed to Governor鈥檚 Air Quality Commission

Professor Jana Milford was recently appointed by Governor Jared Polis to a third three-year term on the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission, which oversees air quality regulations for the state.

Milford is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Environmental Engineering Program. Her research and teaching focus on air quality modeling and data analysis, thermal sciences, environmental impacts of energy systems, and environmental law and policy.  Milford is one of nine members on the Commission.

The Colorado Air Quality Control Commission comprises members appointed by the governor and authorized by the Colorado General Assembly. The commission oversees Colorado鈥檚 air quality program according to the Colorado Air Pollution Prevention and Control Act. It is responsible for adopting an efficient and cost-effective air quality management program that promotes clean and healthy air for Colorado's citizens and protects Colorado's natural resources.

During her tenure on the commission, Milford and her fellow members have strengthened emissions regulations for the oil and gas industry and adopted standards to maintain progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from light-duty cars and trucks.

鈥淚'm looking forward to working with the commission in the coming year to further advance Colorado's goals for improving our air quality, especially for reducing ozone pollution. The Colorado legislature just passed several new laws addressing oil and gas emissions and climate change, so we'll have a busy year developing regulations to implement their requirements.鈥
