Self-care is any activity that you do deliberately in order to take care of your mental, emotional, and physical health.ÌýThe Faculty & Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is dedicated to serving the emotional and psychological needs of the campus community through activities that promote self-care and personal growth. The following workshops are open to all CU Boulder faculty and staff.ÌýThere is not cost to attend. Nutrition for Stress Management

Stress is a component of life, yet certain foods and habits can make stress feel much worse and even make you sick. Learn how to plan meals that reduce stress on your body, increase energy, enhance moods, decrease sugar cravings and increase ability to handle daily ups and downs. Hint – it starts with breakfast!ÌýThis workshop is intended for any CU Boulder faculty or staff member who wants to learn more about making choices around designing healthy and balanced life habits.ÌýParticipants will be able to:

  • Describe the interconnection of food and stress
  • Apply meal planning strategies for better health and energy
  • Create better food and stress management habits

    As a certified nutrition therapist at the Louisville Wellness Center and founder of Be Balanced Healing, LLC, Jen’s specialty is helping clients regain balance while juggling life’s many responsibilities. Her background in marketing for the organic food industry helped shape her knowledge of today’s food politics and how they impact your health. She received the master certification in nutrition therapy from Nutrition Therapy Institute in Denver and is Board Certified in Holistic Nutritionâ (Candidate). Jen is also a health writer, lecturer, media spokesperson and consultant to organic and natural brands.

    Work-Life Balance 101

    What is work-life balance? How do I getÌýit? Is anyone capable of doing it? Work-life Balance 101 is a three part series where we will explore the whats, whys and hows of bringing self-care into our daily lives.ÌýParticipants will create a plan that fits individual needs and discuss ways to bring it to action. Any CU Boulder employeeÌýwhoÌýwould like a better work-life balance and can commit to the full series.ÌýParticipants will be able to:

    • Identify tools to live a healthier life-style
    • Identify areas where extra support may be needed
    • Receive support and resources from the group
    • Apply new skills and tools to enhanceÌýtheirÌýwork-life balance

    • Esther Horowitz , FSAP bilingual Staff Counselor, earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health in the Transpersonal Psychology Department at Naropa University with a concentration in Mindfulness Based Transpersonal Counseling. She holds a clinical psychologist degree from Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Esther held her private practice in Quito, Ecuador with the Spanish speaking population from 2014-2015. She continued working as a Bilingual Counselor/Therapist in the United States at a women’s clinic, and at an agency working with court-mandated clients for anger management, domestic violence, and DUI’s. Outside of FSAP, she enjoys being outdoors, especially near creeks, rivers and lakes. Esther is passionate about food, music, love and human interactions and believes that the recipe for a healthy life involves curiosity and compassion. Ìý

    Sleeping Well to Be Your Best

    If you have trouble getting a good night’s sleep and have tried the usual techniques without success, it’s time to try something different. In this session, participants will learn about tools to help clear obstacles and find sleep solutions that work for you.ÌýThis workshop is intended for any CU Boulder faculty or staff member who wants to learn more about getting a good night’s sleep and add to their personal care routine. Participants will be able to:

    • Overcome sleep obstacles to get better rest
    • Apply tools that work for the best sleep solutions

      The theme of Christine's sessions are centered around her mission to support people who want to break out of old paradigms and limiting behaviors to create innovations and new possibilities, both personally and professionally. Incorporating recent findings in psychology and neuroscience, expertise in innovative techniques, and practical business experience, Christine teaches employers and their staff how to identify and transform counterproductive behaviors that negatively impact their performance, health, and satisfaction. In addition to 10 years in private practice, Christine earned an MBA and Doctor of Naturopathy degrees and builds on 15 years in Human Resources management.

      ÌýParenting Series

      Parenting series is an interactive series that will highlight strategies that are most likely to increase positive interactions and strong emotional connections in your family system.Ìý Participants will learn about the neuro-biological and behavioral sciences that will help make sense of the developmental processes of infants, children and adolescents.ÌýThis workshop is intended for staff/faculty who are new parents and parents-to-be and who can commit to a four weeks series (can attend with Spouse even ifÌýnot an employee). Participants will be able to:

      • Identify the concepts of human and child development
      • Apply emotional regulation and communication skills
      • Generate practical ideas for self-care as a parent

      Paulette Erickson England, holds a Masters of Social Work and currently directs the Faculty and Staff Assistance ProgramÌý (FSAP) office in addition to being a full time clinician. Her professional counseling and social work experience include 10 years in county social work in child welfare, supervision, client counseling and advocacy; sixÌýyears in private practice providing counseling to individuals, families, and couples; and 7+ years at Faculty and Staff Assistance Program providing counseling, work-life presentations, support groups, clinical internship supervision and program coordination.ÌýOutside of FSAP, she spends time with her family, including her two children. She enjoys music, continuing education in her field, participating in sprint distance triathlons, hiking, and writing.
