Provost announces search committee for CU-Boulder College of Music dean
University of Colorado Boulder Provost Russell L. Moore today announced the formation of a search committee to lead a national search for a new dean of the College of Music. John Stevenson, dean of the Graduate School, will chair the committee. 鈥淭he College of Music assumes a central role in shaping the academic and artistic landscape of our campus, and in advancing our Flagship 2030 mission,鈥 Moore said. 鈥淎s we move into a rapidly changing higher education future, visionary leadership will be critical in order to provide the best experience for our students, and to maximize scholarly and performance opportunities for our talented faculty.鈥 During the 2013-14 academic year, James Austin is serving as interim dean while the national search for a permanent dean is conducted. The former dean of the College of Music, Daniel Sher, stepped down in June after 20 years in the position. He returned to the faculty and also is involved in community and donor relations for the college. Stevenson said the committee鈥檚 goal is to bring candidates on campus for interviews during the spring semester. The new dean would then begin his or her duties prior to fall semester 2014. In addition to Stevenson, members of the search committee include Steven Bruns, associate dean of graduate studies for the College of Music; Judith Glyde, professor of cello; Christina Jennings, assistant professor of flute; Jay Keister, associate professor of ethnomusicology; Rebecca Maloy, associate professor of musicology; Patrick Mason, professor of voice; Thomas Riis, director of the American Music Research Center; and William Stanley, associate professor of trombone. Additional members include Lissy Garrison, CU Foundation; Regina Houck, staff representative; Lisa Martin, graduate student; and Becky Roser, chair of the College of Music Advisory Board. Questions, nominations and comments may be directed to Stevenson at john.stevenson@colorado.edu or 303-492-2890.
