Graduate String Quartet Program
Welcome to the Graduate String Quartet Programs at the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music! 听
The College of Music offers an Artist Diploma in String Quartet Performance for one string quartet to work intensively with members of the renowned听Tak谩cs Quartet听and other members of the string faculty.听Applications will be open to 1) preformed string quartets and also 2) individuals who apply for 鈥楢rtist Diploma String Quartet Performance鈥 who would like to be considered for placement in a new graduate string quartet formed by the Tak谩cs Quartet.听The next application will be available听in fall 2023听for entry in fall 2024. The Tak谩cs Graduate Quartet Residency is a听two-year position听generously funded by the Starling Foundation and Tak谩cs Society.听While participating in the program, the graduate quartet will play recitals, perform in master classes, receive regular coaching and collaborate with other instrumentalists and composers. A generous travel budget provides the quartet with support for competitions and concert opportunities outside of Boulder. 听
Tak谩cs Quartet
The world-renowned Tak谩cs Quartet is now entering its 50th anniversary season!听Edward Dusinberre, Harumi Rhodes (violins), Richard O鈥橬eill (viola) and Andr谩s Fej茅r (cello) are excited about projects including a new concerto for them and the Colorado Music Festival orchestra by Gabriela Lena Frank. In November听the group will release its latest Hyperion project, 鈥楩low鈥 by Nokuthula Ngwenyama. A new album with pianist Marc Andre Hamelin will be released in the spring featuring works by Florence Price and Anton铆n Dvo艡谩k.听The Tak谩cs maintains a busy international touring schedule. In 2025 the ensemble will perform in South Korea, Japan and Australia. The Australian tour is centered around a new piece by Kathy Milliken for quartet and narrator. As Associate Artists at London鈥檚 Wigmore Hall, the group will present four concerts featuring works by Haydn, Britten, Ngwenyama, Beethoven, Jan谩膷ek and two performances of Schubert鈥檚 cello quintet with Adrian Brendel. During the season the ensemble will play at other prestigious European venues including Barcelona, Budapest, Milan, Basel, Bath Mozartfest and Bern.听The group鈥檚 North American engagements include concerts in New York, Vancouver, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Lajolla, Berkeley, Ann Arbor, Chicago, Tucson, Portland and Princeton, and collaborations with pianists Stephen Hough and Jeremy Denk. The members of the Tak谩cs Quartet are Christoffersen Fellows and Artists in Residence at the University of Colorado听Boulder. During the summer months the Tak谩cs join the faculty at the Music Academy of the West, running an intensive quartet seminar.听MORE
