Established in 2004, DiMA—a program of the CU Leadership, Excellence, Achievement, Diversity (LEAD) Alliance—supports musicians, composers and musicologists representing diverse backgrounds including underrepresented and first-generation students. DiMA builds community and empowers students through leadership, academic mentorship, scholarships, personal links to faculty and staff, and community service opportunities.

In collaboration with ourÌýAmerican Music Research Center (AMRC), DiMA students also champion diversity in performance through the College of Music’s annual Persevering Legacy event that celebrates women composers including those from historically marginalized groups. Undergraduate and graduate music majors present solo and ensemble performances including works from the .

DiMA participation requires students to maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or higher; students holding the minimum GPA are expected to improve it each semester.ÌýAs members of the CU LEAD Alliance, DiMA participants may leverage free tutoring to strengthen their studies and boost their GPAs. DiMA students may also apply for a $2,000 annual grant through the CU LEAD program; grants are awarded based on financial need, academic meritÌýand group participation.

Membership in DiMA is open to all students, including undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students.ÌýMembers work cooperatively throughout the academic year, producing an annual concert that reflects the group’s diverse membership; and supporting one another by attending other members’Ìýperformances.

Activities + events

DiMA hosts regular coffee hoursÌýexploring inclusivity and representation in music. These gatherings offer a space for deep discussions—often with guest speakers—and learning from each other.Ìý
