Matthew Koschmann, an associate professor in the Department of Communication, specializes in navigating challenging political conversations. He can share strategies to help keep discussions civil during family gatherings, even during this tense election year, and foster deeper understanding despite disagreements.
Karen Ashcraft, a professor of communication, can highlight the importance of addressing feelings rather than facts in navigating contentious conversations, particularly around divisive topics such as those fueled by the election. She advocates for "lateral empathy," a strategy that focuses on understanding the emotional drivers behind grievances rather than trying to combat misinformation directly, offering insights into fostering constructive dialogue both in classrooms and at family gatherings.

As part of CU Presents’ , renowned big band Boston Brass is teaming up with all-star brass players from CU Boulder and around the globe to heat up the holiday season.
Credentialed members of the media are invited to attend the Dec. 14th performance at Macky Auditorium, which will feature exciting arrangements of classics like the Stan Kenton Christmas Carols, “Greensleeves†and “Motown Jingle Bells.â€
