CU Boulder sororities raise more than $290,000 for philanthropies

Sororities at CU Boulder raised more than $290,000 for various causes as part of their philanthropy efforts this academic year.

Each chapter in Fraternity & Sorority Life has a cause that they support, including but not limited to, cancer research, mental health, accessibility and more. Chapters in the College Panhellenic Council raise money and awareness for their dedicated causes by holding various philanthropy events each semester.

The money raised at these events is put right back into our community, through donations to national foundations like or local charities such as the .

One of the philanthropy events from the spring semester was KATwalk, held by Kappa Alpha Theta, where student organizations competed in a dance competition. The sorority members raised more than $34,000, the most ever raised for the chapter, which was donated to for children in Boulder County. CASA advocates for children who have experienced abuse or neglect by providing a safe environment and giving children loving homes and opportunities to thrive.

Chi Omega also raised money with the goal to help children. The sorority’s philanthropy events such as Chi-O Rodeo raised $15,503 in partnership with the for children with critical illnesses. This year, Chi Omega’s donations went to Amelia, a 7-year-old from Arvada who was diagnosed with leukemia. Her wish is to get a horse that she can keep on her family’s farm.

Another impactful event was Delta Gamma’s Spike for Sight Volleyball Tournament. That event in addition to others that Delta Gamma held this year tallied $45,757 in donations, all of which was given to the and the . The money donated to the Anchor Center helps fund specific supplies and toys for visually impaired children, while the money donated to Boulder Guide Dogs helps the group buy harnesses, crates and special food needed for guide dog training.

Alpha Phi also made a significant contribution to their philanthropy this year. Several on and off-campus events raised $82,898 for the , which benefits women’s heart health.

Many of these events are open to all students, including those who are not Greek life members, as well as alumni, families and local community members. The chapters’ goal is to get as many people involved as possible to have the greatest impact on their philanthropies and make a difference in our community.

Those who are interested in joining these events next year can keep an eye on the Student Affairs Events Calendar or FSL Philanthropy webpage to see when events are happening. Anyone is welcome to donate to a cause that they support even if you cannot make it to a specific event.
