The University of Colorado club triathlon, swimming and diving, and men's free style ski teams all repeated as national champions in 2014, while the club lacrosse team won its first. This past weekend, the CU men's ultimate team won the national championship, bringing the total to five national championships for teams in 2014.Ěý
The triathlon team won its fifth straight USTA National Championship in Tempe, Arizona, while the swimming and diving team won its fourth ECU National Championship in Atlanta, over swimming rival University of Florida. The CU men’s free style ski team won the USCSA Rail Jam National Championships in Lake Placid, New York earlier this season. The lacrosse team has been to the MCLA National Championship game three times over the past 10 seasons and brought home its first national championship with a 13-12 win over Arizona State University. The men's ultimate team won theĚýUSA Ultimate National Championship with a 15-10 win over North Carolina University.
The CU Collegiate Sports Club program averages two to three national championships per year and has won more than 60 in the past 20 years, according to Kristopher Schoech, director of the CU Club Sports program.
“We are off to a great start, but our goal is for all of our student athletes to have the opportunity to compete at a national championship," Schoech said. "Winning a collegiate national championship is extremely difficult to do on any level, but getting there is an accomplishment in itself. We are very fortunate to have so many extremely talented student athletes in our program and I am very proud of all of our student athletes and their commitment to our program."
The CU Collegiate Sport Club program qualifies an average of 20 teams per year to their respective national championships. Men’s and women’s lacrosse, cycling, roller hockey, men’s rugby, men’s and women’s crew, women’s ultimate and men’s and women’s tennis have qualified for their respective 2014 national championships and will compete later this season.Ěý
