Construction of the new Baseline Road pedestrian and bicycle underpass is scheduled to start Monday, April 25. The project will run between Broadway and 27th Way. The underpass is expected to be completed with the final roadway configuration in place by the end of this year.
The project will replace the existing mid-block pedestrian-activated traffic signal between the University of Colorado-Boulder campus and the Basemar shopping center. The objectives are to create safer, more fluid and efficient movement of traffic along and across Baseline Road for bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers by removing the street-level pedestrian and bicycle crossing and to connect the underpass to existing sidewalks, multi-use paths and on-street bicycle lanes.
The underpass and final lane configurations are expected to be finished this year, with final paving taking place next spring. Until then, construction could affect your travel. Impacts from this work will include single lane closures between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., off-street multi-use path detours, closure of the on-street bike lanes along Baseline Road, relocation of the bus stop and B-Cycle station, and speed reductions in the work zone. Access to the Basemar shopping center will remain open at all times, with some periods of signed access detours.
