Campus leadership announced Thursday that the on-campus events moratorium will be extended through at least Aug. 16. The moratorium had been slated to run through July 31.

“The extension will help allow campus stakeholders to remain focused the next few weeks on fall planning without the added complexity of events prior to students arriving,” said Dan Jones, associate vice chancellor for integrity, safety and compliance. “We will continue to monitor the situation related to COVID-19 and make a determination of whether to lift the moratorium or further extend it in the coming weeks.”

Campus leadership has approved new guidelines that all groups hosting events on campus must adhere to once the events moratorium is lifted. Campus will be developing procedures to implement these guidelines in collaboration with the SAFE Committee and other event scheduling authorities on campus. The guidelines have been posted online now to provide time for those implementation discussions to occur and so that groups hosting events know what to expect and how to plan. Any adjustments to the guidelines will be communicated to the campus in advance of the moratorium being lifted.ĚýĚý

The new guidelines are based on recommendations and guidance from various agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the state of Colorado and Boulder County Public Health.Ěý

“The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and local community drove the creation of the guidelines as we aim to minimize the spread of COVID-19 with the return to an on-campus experience this fall,” Jones said.

The new guidance covers capacities for different types of events and locations, physical distancing, masks, food service, campus tours and a variety of other topics. This includes guidance that indoor events will be capped at 100 people and outdoor events at 175 people depending on the venue and based up physical distancing requirements. Due to physical distancing requirements, venue capacities will be much lower than usual.

The guidelines do not cover Athletics events, as plans for those events are still being discussed by the Athletic Department and leadership from the campus, Pac-12 Conference and NCAA.
