Kevin MacLennan to retire after nearly 30 years of service to CU Boulder

Kevin MacLennan, associate vice chancellor of enrollment management, will be retiring from the university after nearly 30 years of service, effective Sept. 1.

“Kevin has been an invaluable part of our campus for almost three decades,” chancellor Philip DiStefano said. “I can’t tell you how many parents have told me how Kevin shaped their children’s educational journeys and made their transition to CU Boulder easier. I’m very grateful for all he’s done for generations of students.”

Over the course of his tenure at CU Boulder, MacLennan worked with the campus’s enrollment management team to recruit and admit thousands of students each year to CU Boulder. He has served in leadership roles on several enrollment management and admissions committees at the state and national level.

“I would like to thank Kevin for his incredible service to CU Boulder,” said Chief Operating Officer Patrick O’Rourke. “Kevin cares more deeply about CU Boulder than anyone I know and has given so much of himself to our community. I truly wish him well in his retirement.”

MacLennan was an early champion of the Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE) building, which officially opened in 2018 and is now a prominent stop on campus tours for prospective students and their families. In 2018, MacLennan led a cross-campus working group to re-envision and expand services and resources for transfer students, leading to the launch of the campus Transfer Center.

“I feel fortunate and grateful to have been part of the CU Boulder campus community for so many years,” MacLennan said. “To work with and be surrounded by so many talented faculty, staff and students who make the university such an exceptional place has been more special than I could have ever imagined.”

In retirement, MacLennan is looking forward to spending more time with family, focusing on health, traveling and exploring new opportunities.

According to O’Rourke, Carla Ho’a, outgoing vice chancellor and chief financial officer, has agreed to step in to provide the enrollment management leadership team with short-term support while long-term plans are put in place to fill MacLennan’s role.

“I am confident the enrollment management team will continue to do incredible work on behalf of the campus,” MacLennan said. “CU Boulder is an amazing institution, and I’m proud to have been part of our campus community.”
