Chancellor seeks nominations for provost search committee

CU Boulder Chancellor Justin Schwartz is seeking nominations for members of the provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs search advisory committee following the announcement that Provost Russell Moore will be stepping down.

The committee will be co-chaired by Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs Michele Moses and Senior Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Sonia DeLuca Fernández. Nominations and self-nominations for the search committee are due by Friday, Oct. 18.

The provost is the lead academic officer of the university and reports to the chancellor. The provost works in collaboration with the faculty, university officers, unit heads, faculty governance representatives and the staff to articulate and achieve the university’s strategic mission and goals, with the focus on providing the highest quality educational experience to students and engaging in the production of knowledge.

“We are seeking search committee members who are committed to CU Boulder’s academic mission, understand the national landscape for higher education, and can help identify and evaluate top-notch candidates to serve as our next provost,” Schwartz said.

The search advisory committee, in accordance with , should consist of four faculty members, one student, one staff member and one alumnus/a; nominations and self-nominations should fit these categories. The chancellor may increase the committee’s size and representation at his discretion. The committee’s role is to generate a strong pool of candidates and advise the chancellor of those candidates best qualified to meet the needs of the Office of Academic Affairs, the academic mission, and the university.

The chancellor plans to select the search committee and launch a national search, conducted by an executive search firm, by the end of October with the goal of having a new provost in position by July 1, 2025.
