University of Colorado Boulder Police Chief Melissa Zak, who for the past three years has helped lead the campus through crises and high-profile events such as floods, a presidential debate and demonstrations, will assume a new role Jan. 1 as the university’s assistant vice chancellor of safety.

CU Boulder’s student news site, CU Independent (CUI), is one of four student news sites to receive the 2016 Online Pacemaker award from the Associated Collegiate Press. "This award is a huge testament to how hard this staff works on a daily basis," says CUI Editor-in-Chief Xandra McMahon.

In 2016, we again celebrated a campus community that brings innovation and positive impacts to Colorado and the nation. We marked new discoveries, faculty achievements, Olympic medalists and a resurgent football program while welcoming high-profile visitors to campus and sending satellites throughout our solar system. Universities are required by state and federal laws to retain and then dispose of their records according to specific standards. Each department is responsible for submitting its log of destroyed records to the Campus Controller's Office for an annual report to the state archivist.

Students lose access to Desire2Learn (D2L) courses just three weeks after the conclusion of each semester. If there are any course materials you wish to keep, you have until the end of Thursday, Jan. 5, to download via D2L.

The Office of Information Technology is piloting PlayPosit, a tool that allows users to add quiz questions to video content and monitor student engagement with the lesson. This in-video quiz can be accessed from within Desire2Learn.
