"Buffalo Racing" Car Show

The car show will feature all types of street and race cars -- exotic and classic, foreign and domestic. Awards will be given at the end of the show. The event also will include a silent auction, food and T-shirt sales. Proceeds will benefit the project race car of the CU chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers, which will be on display at the show. The event is co-sponsored by the CU department of mechanical engineering and Checker Auto Parts.

Long-Term River And Lake Ice Records Show Warming Trend In Northern Hemisphere

An historical survey of rivers and lakes in the Northern Hemisphere during the past 150 years shows they have been thawing earlier and freezing later each year, an indication the temperate regions of the world have been warming.

CU-Boulder Hires Consultant For South Campus Conceptual Plan

Shapins Associates of Boulder was selected by the University of Colorado Board of Regents today to begin work on a conceptual land-use assessment for the CU-Boulder South Campus. The assessment will address environmental, floodplain, transportation, utility and other infrastructure issues and will include conditions and mitigation processes that will define appropriate land uses for the property. CU-Boulder's 308-acre South Campus, located west of U.S. 36 and south of Table Mesa Drive, was purchased by the university in 1996 to meet future campus needs.

Conference Explores Colorado's Tourism In The New Millenium

Colorado聮s most comprehensive conference on the state聮s tourism industry will reveal results of a new study on mountain tourism, the latest trends in the family vacation market and how well the state tourism advertising agency did in its 2000 summer campaign. The 2000 Colorado Tourism Conference, titled "Colorado Tourism in the New Millennium," will meet Oct. 18-20 at the Doubletree Hotel, 3203 Quebec St., in Denver. Senior Vice President Of IBM Research To Speak On Future Of Technology

Paul Horn, senior vice president and director of research for IBM Corp., will present the CU-Boulder College of Engineering and Applied Science聮s second annual Mervyn Young Memorial Lecture at Macky Auditorium, Sept. 14. The 90-minute lecture titled "The Future of Technology" is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The event is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

CU-Boulder Community Relations Office Solicits Ideas On Upcoming Lectures

The Office of Community Relations at the University of Colorado at Boulder is asking Boulder area residents to submit lecture topic ideas to help develop future installments of the Chancellor聮s Community Lecture Series, aimed at bringing faculty expertise to general public audiences. Because of the diversity of the campus聮s academic programs, topics can range anywhere from aerospace engineering to Shakespeare. Popular lecture topics in past years have included smart growth, life in the Caucasus Mountains and the people of ancient Nubia.

CU-Boulder Forum And Welcome Reception To Honor New President Elizabeth Hoffman

Chancellor Richard L. Bynny has invited the University of Colorado at Boulder campus community to an open forum and reception to welcome CU President Elizabeth Hoffman, the 20th president of the university. The open forum will be held Monday, Sept. 11, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Old Main Chapel. President Hoffman will give a brief overview of her initial plans for the university and will field questions from the audience. Following the forum a reception is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Norlin Quad on the lawn in front of Old Main.

CU-Boulder Professor Who Discovered Ancient Turkish Church To Present Community Lecture On Sept. 13

Internationally known underwater archaeologist and CU-Boulder history Professor Robert Hohlfelder will kickoff the fall 2000 Chancellor聮s Community Lecture Series on Wednesday, Sept. 13, with his presentation "Swimming Over Time: A Survey of the Submerged Ruins of Aperlae." All talks in the Chancellor聮s Community Lecture Series will be at 7 p.m. in the Chapel at The Academy, located at 970 Aurora Ave. in Boulder. The monthly lectures are free and open to the public.

UMAS To Host Annual Chicano History Week Activities At CU-Boulder

In recognition of Chicano History Week the United Mexican American Students organization on the CU-Boulder campus will host a series of panel presentations Sept. 12-14. The annual event will address issues that are important to the Chicano community while revisiting the history of the Chicano activist movement, according to Teresa Estrada, UMAS council chair. The panels are meant to promote cultural education, appreciation and respect. "We always want to make sure that we involve ourselves in teaching the community about our history," Estrada said.

CU-Boulder Engineering Dean Ross Corotis Resigns, Holds Business Challenge Professorship

Ross B. Corotis, dean of the University of Colorado at Boulder's College of Engineering and Applied Science, has resigned from his position effective at the end of the current academic year, July 31, 2001, Vice Chancellor Phil DiStefano announced today.
