Academic Advising Communities

Two people meeting in an office

There are several advising communities across the Boulder campus; some are housed within one of the colleges and schools and others are stand-alone programs. Support services vary but include academic advising, academic coaching, and overall academic support. Academic advisors have expertise in navigating the entire curriculum and in developing mentoring relationships with students. Students are encouraged to meet with an advisor at least once each semester.

Academic Coaching

Academic coaching supports students to develop academic skills, deepen their self-awareness, develop confidence in academics, and learn an iterative and actionable goal setting process. Academic coaches are advising professionals who specialize in partnering with students to support their individualized learning process through conversations about time management, motivation, and learning and study strategies. Academic coaching is available to students in the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Engineering & Applied Science, Program in Environmental Design, and Program in Exploratory Studies. Learn more about academic coaching services by visiting the college, school or program’s link below.

Campuswide Advising Drop-In Hours

All academic advising teams/majors provide weekly drop-in hours, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Mondays during fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. Each college, school, and program also offers intra university transfer/exploration advising during that same window, which offers a great opportunity for students to explore interests in any college or school. Find details in Buff Portal Advising for your currently declared majors and minors, or by selecting “meet with a different advisor”.
