Kirk Ambrose, Founding Director, CTL • Professor, Classics
Kirk Ambrose is a professor of Classics and Founding Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning. In addition to dozens of scholarly articles, book chapters, and reviews, he has published three books on the medieval art of Europe. In addition, he has curated museum exhibitions on the art of the American West, including Pioneers: Women Artists in Boulder, 1898-1950, which was the basis of a feature-length documentary film. His service includes seven years as chair of the Department of Art & Art History and Editor-in-Chief of The Art Bulletin. For over twenty years his teaching has spanned the gamut from introductory undergraduate courses of 425 students to graduate seminars
Preston Cumming, Professional Development Lead, CTL • Lecturer, Geography
Preston Cumming received his PhD in Geography in 2013 from the University of Colorado Boulder. Although he now focuses mainly on teaching and learning, Preston’s primary scientific research interests lie in ecology and biometeorology, working on micro- and macro-climatic variability and how both native and non-native plant species respond. His post-doctoral work was in Botany at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. He has taught at the university level since 2008 teaching Physical Geography, Biogeography, Research Methods, Teaching Practicum, and Pedagogy at CU Boulder. Additionally, he has worked within the Graduate and Professional Student and Post-Doctoral Fellow Special Interest Group with the Professional and Organizational Development Network, a national organization for faculty and graduate student development and an Administrative Co-Leader for the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning on the CU Boulder campus. Preston is currently working towards his master’s degree in Higher Education through the School of Education at CU Boulder.
