CU Boulder is celebrating a special Aerospace Night at Folsom Field under the Friday night lights as the Buffs take on UCLA on Sept. 28. There will also be an “Afternoon of Aerospace” in the run-up to the game that day, including a pre-game tailgate and afternoon seminar with a solar sails expert from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.

At the game, we’ll be honoring CU-affiliated astronauts and some of our state’s aerospace titans, including CU’s Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP), which is marking its 70th anniversary this year, Ball Aerospace, Sierra Nevada Corporation, United Launch Alliance (ULA) and many more. Colorado has the second largest aerospace economy in the United States and is home to many industry startups.

CU Boulder has long been an aerospace leader through the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences, LASP, and our new Space Minor program, which began in 2017. We’re also building a $100 million dedicated aerospace facility—opening in 2019 ()—to enable new research, accelerate industry collaborations, and accommodate continued growth of the student body.

Activities will begin in the afternoon with the opportunity to hear from at a research seminar titled Solar Sails: Traveling the Solar System (and Beyond!) with Sunlight.

Following the seminar, join us at Ralphie's Corral for a pre-game tailgate. We'll have entertainment for the whole family including a live DJ, appearances by the CU Marching Band, Spirit Squad and Chip, photo ops with Ralphie, and special CU and aerospace giveaways and prizes. Registration for Ralphie's Corral includes a guaranteed aerospace giveaway, one food ticket, and two drink tickets per person.

The action will start with the kickoff at Folsom Field at 7 p.m. If you can’t make it out to the game, it will also be shown live on FS1. Show your Buff pride and come out for the game to cheer on our CU athletes and celebrate Colorado aerospace!
