The collaborative and creative research community at CU Boulder maintains partnerships with local industry leaders and national research laboratories including the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), the US Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

Postdoctoral Associates and postdocs who are classified as Research Associates (or Postdoctoral Research Associates) at CU Boulder have a five-year term limit, in accordance with the Postdoctoral Scholar Term Limit Guidelines. Postdoctoral Fellows' terms are governed by the conditions of their fellowship, and therefore, not subject to the university's five-year term limit.
