The dean’s list of advice: Making progress on your goals
This time of year often gives us an opportunity to reflect and consider some new goals for the future. Making goals to work on during the semester can help us identify the things that are important to us, make new connections and develop new strengths.
Whether these goals are related to academics, finding an internship or job, getting more involved on campus or other areas of our lives, most of us have things we’d like to accomplish in 2022. Here are some common goals that students have and some advice for accomplishing them.
If you’re seeking new experiences…
Join the Dean of Students Leadership and Values Council. Members will share ideas and feedback regarding issues that affect the student body, and also engage in leadership development and mentorship opportunities.
Consider joining a fraternity or sorority. With 28 chapters recognized by the university, these organizations are a great way to make new friendships, find leadership opportunities and academic support and give back to your community.
Take advantage of opportunities to learn about cultures, identities and the experiences of others that are different from your own. Attend campus events around diversity and inclusion, or connect with the Dennis Small Cultural Center and the Center for Inclusion and Social Change for more opportunities.
Participate in Alternative Breaks in March. Applications are now open to join this week-long journey over spring break allows you to explore while making a difference through service.
Learn about leadership and gain experience by joining CU GOLD or the Journey Leader program this spring.

Consider setting up a study group with a few friends or partnering up with a classmate to help keep each other accountable.
Plan to use academic support resources available on campus.
If you want to land a summer job or internship…
Attend virtual and in-person career fairs this semester to meet with potential employers who are looking to hire CU Boulder students. Career fairs are open to all students, no matter your major or year.
Join career workshops and programs to help you in your search. Learn how to prepare for career fairs, write resumes, network and more.
If you want to improve your health and wellness…
