Kick off the new year and spring semester in style with plenty of events across campus. This week brings free activities at the Rec, an astronomy year in review, “Shrek” movie night, a guided painting class, International Coffee Hour, live music and more.

Kick off the spring semester with free events at the Rec! Choose from a variety of activities including bouldering, skate rentals, martial arts classes and more.


Wednesday, Jan. 17

   5–10 p.m.   ​&Բ;The Connection 
Show off your gaming skills at the Super Smash Bros tournament! Sign-up starts at 4 p.m. at The Connection front desk. 

   7:30 p.m.   ​&Բ;Muenzinger Auditorium (E050)
“Airplane!” is a classic comedy in the great tradition of high school skits. Enjoy a free showing as part of the International Film Series.

College of Music students are performing in degree-qualifying recitals this Wednesday, and throughout the semester. All recitals are free and open to the public.

During PC Presents, there will be live music presented by CU Boulder’s Program Council. Get your groove on!

Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a newbie, this painting class is great for everyone! All supplies are included.


Friday, Jan. 19

   4–5:30 p.m.   ​&Բ;UMC, stage area across from Alfred Packer Grill
International Coffee Hour is open to all members of the CU community as a way to celebrate culture and diversity on campus. There will be free coffee, snacks and games! 

   5–7 p.m.   ​&Բ;UMC 411
The CU Recovery Community is hosting a night of pizza and games as a welcome back to campus. The community will convene at 4 p.m., followed by pizza and activities at 5 p.m.

   5 p.m.   ​&Բ;Eaton Humanities, Room 250
“Art would get us through it”: During this event, presented by the Classics Graduate Colloquium, attendees will learn about plague and poetry—from “Vergil’s Bees” to Emily St. John Mandel’s “Station Eleven.”

Review all the astronomy information gathered from 2023. Questions are welcomed and encouraged. Don’t forget your Buff OneCard for free entry!

Take a journey with Moses Pendleton, inspired by the classic story of “
Alice in Wonderland.” Performers will shrink and grow as Alice does, using props, ropes and other dancers to extend themselves.
