Design Center Colorado

Design Center Colorado (DCC) leads the way in providing engineering design education to mechanical engineering undergraduate and graduate students in collaboration with industry and government agency sponsors. Through innovative curriculum, hands-on learning, state-of-the-art design facilities, and real-world project experiences for students, DCC boasts evidence-based methods for transitioning students successfully into the workplace.

DCC manages mechanical engineering active learning spaces and fabrication facilities that make the advanced design and entrepreneurial work our students are known for possible. These facilities include the Chevron Design Studio, Graduate Design Studio, the Drop-In Design Lab (DIDL), the machine shop, design conference rooms and material testing equipment.

In addition to design education and facilities, DCC provides financial support for annual Senior Design and Capstone Design projects, mentorship for students and coordination of Senior Design and Capstone Design project sponsors. DCC repeatedly attracts students from all over the globe in addition to sponsors ranging from start-ups to industrial conglomerates.

Design in Our Undergraduate Program

The mechanical engineering undergraduate degree at CU Boulder includes a variety of design classes, starting with a freshman CAD class and ending with Senior Design. Students have several opportunities to implement the design process and strengthen their theoretical and hands-on engineering knowledge, increasing their competitive edge after graduation.
